GEMA LITERASI : DARI BUKU MENUJU PRESTASI ANAK BANGSA

Abstract

Low interest in reading among Junior High School (SMP) students is one of the main problems faced by education in this digital era (Madura region included). This study/program intends to increase intrinsic motivation and understanding of literacy culture importance in students through socialization program "Gema Literasi: Dari Buku Menuju Prestasi Anak Bangsa". The method used was interactive lectures and guest lectures supported with audio-visual media, discussion sessions and rewarded literacy quizzes (fun learning). Response and participation rate were very good. Over 90% of students participated enthusiastically in all sessions. It raised awareness of gadget usage influence on reading habits; positive perception towards school library; and inspired them to read as lifestyle. This program shows collaboration between schools, teachers and community is needed for sustainable literacy ecosystem building so critical character driven high achieving young generation can be formed in Madura.
